Senior Operator, Sewage Plant - Military Services Group

Hourly Rate Range: $42.52 - $45.00. The base salary range represents a good-faith estimate; actual pay is determined by market, geography, skills, education, and experience. This position is eligible for annual incentive pay and continued salary growth.

About the Role

Independently operates, maintains, repairs, and inspects wastewater treatment plants and collection systems (lift stations, holding tanks, grease traps, etc.). Responsibilities include collecting wastewater samples per state regulations, performing process control laboratory testing, recording data, preparing regulatory reports, adjusting chemical feed rates, and assisting with water collection systems and main/service repairs.

Responsibilities

• Operate wastewater systems (conventional treatment plants, spray irrigation systems, lift stations, holding tanks, grease traps) to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
• Collect and analyze samples required for compliance and process control.
• Perform maintenance on wastewater systems and assigned general housekeeping duties.
• Maintain and calibrate hand-held and online monitoring equipment and treatment equipment.
• Follow the Company’s Environmental, Health, and Safety Policies; report unsafe conditions.
• Record system operation readings, maintain daily logs, and document plant operating data in logs and operations software.
• Communicate effectively and respectfully with employees, supervisors, external organizations, and citizen customers.
• Assist in repairs of treatment plant equipment, water, and sewer main/service repairs.
• Perform other related functions as assigned or as they arise.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• State Class B Wastewater License highly preferred; a combination of experience and lower license may be considered.
• Ability to obtain a Class C Wastewater License within one (1) year of hire if not already held.
• Washington WWTPO 3 License highly preferred; a combination of experience and lower license may be considered.
• Valid, active state driver’s license; CDL preferred. Must pass a Washington MVR Report.
• Ability to pass a Department of Defense background check for access to the military installation.
• Physical ability to work indoors or outdoors in seasonal heat, cold, or adverse weather conditions while wearing an approved respirator.
• Capable of lifting 75 pounds unassisted.
• Willingness to work weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call assignments as needed.

Skills

• Ability to read gauges and meters.
• Proficiency in preparing and maintaining accurate paperwork, logs, orders, surveys, and routine reports.
• Ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations related to the position.
• Experience with standardized water process control, monitoring, compliance sampling, and testing.
• Mechanical skills for minor repairs to process equipment, piping, motors, etc.
• Hands-on experience with light-duty electrical power systems (240V/single and three-phase) and instrumentation calibration.
• Basic computer skills: MS Word, MS Excel, and SCADA systems.
• Knowledge of techniques, equipment, and materials used in mechanical maintenance and repair.
• Thorough knowledge of activated sludge treatment for domestic waste, including methods and precautions for handling chlorine and other industrial chemicals.

Schedule

Some weekend, holiday, and overtime work as needed, including on-call assignments. Travel requirements are less than 5%.
