SENIOR OPERATOR
About the role
The Department of Social Services (DSS) is part of the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). DSS aims to fight poverty and income inequality by providing essential benefits such as Food Assistance and Emergency Rental Assistance.
Responsibilities
- Manage the printing of negotiable documents in the Print Pool mandated by law, ensuring Public Assistance Benefits are not interrupted.
- Print various notices for the HRA Client Population, including Food Stamps notices, Home Energy Assistance Program notices, Fair Hearing notices, and others.
- Oversee the maintenance of printers in the print pool, which includes managing multiple types of printers.
- Supervise Computer Associates (Operations) Level I staff, schedule production applications, and assist in solving operations and scheduling issues across different platforms.
- Maintain file updates, monitor The Sun Open Views System, and the Virtual Print System.
- Monitor computer system operations by operating CRT consoles to determine work to be done, ensuring all jobs are initiated as scheduled and appropriate input files are mounted on peripheral devices.
Requirements
- A certificate from an accredited technical school with a specialization in computer operations, and two years of satisfactory full-time computer operations experience in a large-scale networked, multi-tiered, or mainframe computer environment.
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and three years of satisfactory full-time experience as described in "1" above.
- A four-year high school diploma or its equivalent and four years of satisfactory full-time experience as described in "1" above.
- A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2", or "3" above, with at least two years of full-time experience as described in "1" above.
Preferred Skills
- Proficient in the use of NearStar Datasever Manager.
- Experience with various print controllers from vendors such as Fiery, Xerox, Canon, Konica Minolta, etc.
- Experience operating print equipment and troubleshooting errors.
- Able to lift 25 lbs. multiple times daily.
