About the role
This position is office-based but the employee must also work at various unanticipated sites throughout the US and internationally from a few days to months based on the scope of work being undertaken. When office-based, may telecommute (work from home) 1 day/week within commuting distance of, and reporting to, Charlotte, NC company location.
Responsibilities
- Review plant performance data daily with Operations Engineers to identify opportunities for increased plant performance and/or reliability.
- Provide assistance to mechanical, electrical, and/or process departments during design phase.
- Interface with clients and seek to understand challenges with existing design and operation.
- Provide support and operational knowledge for Operations Engineer – Global Solutions in communications with clients.
- Support Global Solutions’ technical and purchasing personnel in review of equipment, process flows and designs to provide robust designs and recommendations for clients.
- Review and prepare operating instructions, maintenance manuals, and other operating literature.
- Review, prepare and edit monthly summary reports for plant performance for client and internally for Global Solutions.
- Review, develop and coordinate training programs for client operations personnel including preparation of training manuals, aids, and lesson plans for these programs.
- Assist in the startup of new plants.
- Ensure a smooth handover from Commissioning team to Client Plant Operations team by ensuring training and post commissioning support align with Midrex operating parameters and practices.
- Aid and provide coverage for Remote Professional Services (RPS) to monitor plant performance worldwide.
- Train and provide guidance to client personnel, both in the field and control room.
Qualifications
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical or Metallurgical Engineering or related field or foreign equivalent.
- Requires ten (10) years applying chemical engineering principles in process plants to include five (5) years: Direct Reduction plant safe start-up and shut downs; cold and hot discharge plant operation; utilizing understanding of and adjusting process setpoints to meet quality and production parameters; utilizing understanding of unit processes in the Direct Reduction plant and impact on processes; writing commissioning manuals; accurately interpreting logic diagrams; accurately interpreting process and instrumentation diagrams.
- Requires field work (site stays) in the US and internationally ranging from a few days (to visit unanticipated client sites for training of personnel or commissioning of plant facilities) to up to 4 – 6 months (for new plant commissioning).
