About the role
OUC - The Reliable One is seeking a Senior Operational Technology Network Engineer to join the Trans, Substation & Sys Protect division. The role focuses on maintaining and enhancing mission-critical operational network infrastructure in high-availability, critical-infrastructure environments.
Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize OUC's operational network environment
- Configure and support switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers, and wireless systems
- Lead network projects and recommend technology improvements
- Ensure secure, dependable network operations supporting OUC's essential utility services
- Test network equipment changes on the Test Network Lab before promotion to production
- Monitor network performance and integrity of switches, next generation firewalls, load balancers, and routers
- Resolve issues by troubleshooting cloud and local infrastructure
- Create, oversee, and test security measures
- Maintain complete technical documentation of network configurations
- Identify and recommend replacement models for upcoming end-of-life equipment
- Coordinate with IT staff and support staff managing other business unit networks
- Serve as project lead for network-related projects including vendor management and budgeting
- Add to the repository of best practices and knowledge for training and reference
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Management Information Systems (MIS), or related discipline from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of five (5) years progressive experience in an Information Technology network environment
- Above to include a minimum of three (3) years of experience managing networks (MPLS preferred)
- Troubleshooting wired and wireless networks, configuring switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers, working on network related projects and coordinating with stakeholders
Qualifications
- Experience with public or government cloud network environments
- Professional certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or CCDP
- Experience working in NERC/CIP-regulated environments
- Experience with both Cisco and Fortinet network equipment
Skills
- Working knowledge of network administration and architecture
- Access control models, network security and firewall administration
- Coding languages for scripting (e.g., Python, Perl)
- Network diagnostic, monitoring, and analysis tools
- Solid understanding of network operating systems
- Proficient in load balancer administration
- Communication protocols (mainly TCP/IP) and routing protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF)
- Detailed network diagrams
- Network disaster recovery documentation
- Experience with Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) Network Protocol, Spanning Tree, and other industry network protocols and best practices
- Equipment to include: Network Switches, Next Generation Firewalls, Routers, and Load Balancers, Wireless Controllers and Access Points
- Effective interpersonal, active listening, and written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to perform tasks with limited supervision and take ownership of tasks
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
- Ability to create and maintain detailed network diagrams
- Ability to provide guidance and mentorship to team members
- Arithmetic computation skills
- Understanding of governmental accounting practices
- Use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and standard office equipment

$108,000.00 to $135,000.00 annually commensurate with experience
