About the role
Functions as a senior-level healthcare provider with an independent outpatient schedule, guided by faculty and best practices. Extends beyond standard Nurse Practitioner responsibilities by contributing to the education and training of nurse practitioners, departmental Quality Assurance & Quality Improvement initiatives, and optimization of operational strategies.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on outpatient and/or inpatient services, managing complex patients within the specialty.
- Train and orient new nurse practitioners; educate NPs on new equipment, techniques, and best practices.
- Develop and implement Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to the optimization of operational strategies, workflows, and patient care services.
- Evaluate new and established patients through comprehensive and focused health histories and physical examinations.
- Order labs, imaging, diagnostic testing, and consultations; review and interpret results to develop patient care plans.
- Prescribe medications and therapeutic interventions following accepted standards of care and practice guidelines.
- Perform therapeutic and diagnostic procedures as appropriate for the department and training.
- Document patient care in medical records according to best practice standards.
- Counsel and educate patients and caregivers on disease management, prevention, and health promotion, considering age, education level, psychosocial needs, and cultural background.
- Confer with specialists, attending physicians, residents, nursing staff, and other healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care and optimize patient outcomes.
- Assist in the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of research protocols when applicable.
- Perform additional duties as determined by patient and practice needs.
Requirements
- Master's of Science Degree in Nursing.
- Minimum of five (5) years' experience as a Nurse Practitioner in the specialty.
- Evidence of strong leadership potential.
Qualifications
- NYS Registered Nurse Practitioner (NP) license and current NP registration.
- NYS Registered Professional Nurse license and current RN registration.
- Applicable National Board Certification (e.g., ANCC, PNCB).
- Current BLS certification (issued by American Heart Association).
- Infection Control Certificate.
- Current Narcotics DEA registration certificate.
