Senior Network Infrastructure Engineer

Responsibilities
- Act as single point of contact to Real Estate Design & Delivery organization for small to medium size construction projects.
- Develop ROM costs for design and delivery of a complete turn-key network infrastructure for a defined project.
- Determine equipment, materials, and labor costs for each project and manage project expenses to estimates.
- Develop office building physical layer design documents and BOMs.
- Perform site audits and assessments needed to develop design documents and plans.
- Produce Telecom Room layouts, rack elevation plans, optical riser backbone drawings, labeling schemes, detailed materials BOMs, Division 27 documents, cutover plans, runlists, and any other documents required to define project design.
- Design horizontal cabling systems & supporting components, optical riser backbone systems, OSP optical campus backbones & pathways, cable pathways, cable tray conveyance systems, conduits, pull-boxes, outlets, workstation feeds-devices, floor termination devices, etc.
- Program and design Telecom Rooms including overall room layouts, power, HVAC, grounding, racks, runways, HCM, VCM, etc.
- Manage new copper and fiber cable pulls. Update CAD drawings, Patch Manager, and Layer 1 documentation.
- Partner with other network engineers on equipment selection and related costs.
- Develop switch port requirements based on floor/occupancy plans, specify UPS needed to support network equipment, review WIFI AP plans, and propose adjustments to coordinate with ceiling design.
- Program pathways to support final AP plans, specify AP mounting brackets-kits for various ceiling types & mounting scenarios.
- Drive access layer planning by determining switch counts, uplink capacity, and port density requirements based on physical design needs.
- Execute wireless deployment reviews, including AP placement validation and interference mitigation relative to ceiling and pathway design.
- Commission newly deployed access layer infrastructure, including switch staging, port assignments, VLAN configuration, and end-to-end connectivity verification prior to production cutover.
- Assess existing physical plant and network infrastructure for capacity, performance, and end-of-life risk; develop and present findings and remediation recommendations to engineering leadership.
- Coordinate with the Architect as a member of the design team to ensure Construction Documents (CDs) accurately reflect the required physical layer design. Review floor plans and provide mark-ups to Architect to incorporate into CDs for General and MEP contractor scope.
- Collaborate with Strategic Sourcing to obtain competitive bids for implementation of the physical layer design. Identify bidders, define bid milestones, attend bid conferences, present design to bidders, respond to RFIs, evaluate bid responses, conduct post-bid interviews, and select contractors.
- Provide Construction Administration for each project. Conduct frequent site walks and onsite reviews. Participate in weekly OAC meetings. Review applicable submittals, respond to RFIs, coordinate closely with General, Electrical, and Cabling Contractors to ensure project implementation is consistent with design.
- Attend site meetings to evaluate and recommend solutions when field conditions dictate deviation from proposed design.
- Coordinate Service Provider/Carrier builds into new and existing facilities.
- Provide schedule milestones with estimated completion times to General Contractors to incorporate into overall construction project schedule. Track timelines and financial forecasts against stated objectives, ensure proper transition to operations, and completion of close-out as-built floor plans-documentation & test reports.
- Evaluate and execute Business Unit requests for cabling MAC work and small infrastructure projects.
- Engineer and maintain the network infrastructure environment at 7 Hudson and Bristol Connecticut Technology Rooms. Coordinate equipment installations and connectivity, specify rack mount locations, extend Carrier circuits, and manage cabling, power, and Service Provider/Carrier builds to ensure integrity of the physical plant.
- Execute NFAD infrastructure projects including Telecom Room remodels, Campus fiber-optic capacity adds, and horizontal cable and optical backbone upgrades.
- Research technologies and products, meet with vendors, address technical issues/deficiencies, and influence new products and services to meet growing and changing requirements.
- Contribute to NFAD group including researching and recommending new technologies, developing formats for designs and scope-of-work documents, updating/creating strategy & standards documents.
- Demonstrate technical acumen, business acumen, strong communication skills, and professional maturity in representing the department in business discussions.
- Validate network infrastructure integrity in facility environments, including switch connectivity, VLAN assignments, and port configurations, engaging other network engineers on complex fault resolution as needed.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5+ years of direct experience in building construction, electrical, and network infrastructure design & implementation, including physical layer cabling systems and network engineering fundamentals.
- Knowledge of EIA/TIA standards and building codes.
- Ability to effectively multi-task and prioritize multiple small to medium size projects of various complexity with successful and timely completion.
- Excellent communication and relationship skills, with emphasis on the ability to articulate technical topics to both technical and non-technical staff; ability to articulate business issues/concerns with staff, peers, manager, and outside parties.
- MS Office, Bluebeam, and AutoCAD proficiency.
- Working knowledge of network access layer fundamentals, including Ethernet switching concepts, VLAN segmentation, switch port configuration, and basic Layer 2/3 principles as they apply to physical infrastructure planning and deployment.
- Familiarity with enterprise wireless networking concepts, including AP placement, RF planning fundamentals, and working with other network engineers on wireless infrastructure deployments.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience.

- BISCI certified RCDD or Professional Engineer.
- PMP – Project Management Professional.
- PE - Professional Engineer license.
- Regional AHJ experience.
- Automation training.
- TOGAF training.
- Six Sigma Lean certified.

- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).
- Cisco Certified Technician (CCT) – entry-level Cisco platform familiarity.
- Juniper Networks Certified Associate (JNCIA-Junos).
Pay
The hiring range for this position in New York, NY is $135,400.00 to $181,600.00 per year, and in Bristol, CT is $129,300.00 to $173,300.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
