About the role
This role provides deep technical leadership across routing, switching, data center and core networks, campus and branch infrastructure, wireless, WAN, and edge technologies, including SD-WAN, remote access, and supporting network services such as load balancing, DNS, DHCP, IP Address Management (IPAM), and proxy solutions. As part of Barclays’ Networks Modernization journey, you will lead the delivery of modern, resilient network platforms, driving automation, DevOps practices, and product-centric ways of working to improve scalability, security, and speed of delivery.
You will act as a senior technical authority, influencing design decisions, guiding multi-faceted delivery, and ensuring network platforms meet business, regulatory, and operational requirements.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, build, and run of Barclays’ global network infrastructure platforms and connectivity products across data center, core, campus, branch, and edge environments.
- Provide technical leadership in routing, switching, data center and core networks, campus and branch infrastructure, wireless, WAN, and edge technologies, including SD-WAN, remote access, and supporting network services (load balancing, DNS, DHCP, IPAM, proxy).
- Drive the delivery of modern, resilient network platforms as part of Barclays’ Networks Modernization journey, incorporating automation, DevOps practices, and product-centric ways of working.
- Act as a Tier 4 escalation point for high-impact production incidents, demonstrating ownership, decision-making, and leadership through resolution.
- Influence design decisions and provide technical direction to BA4 level engineers while remaining hands-on as needed.
- Build and maintain infrastructure platforms and products that support applications and data systems, ensuring reliability, scalability, and security.
- Monitor IT infrastructure and system performance to identify, address, and resolve potential issues, vulnerabilities, or outages, using data to drive down mean time to resolution.
- Develop and implement automated tasks and processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention using software scripting/coding disciplines.
- Implement secure configurations and measures to protect infrastructure against cyber-attacks, vulnerabilities, and unauthorized access.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, architects, and other engineers to define IT infrastructure requirements and ensure seamless integration with business objectives.
- Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations, actively contributing to the organization's technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
- Lead multi-faceted programs end-to-end, advising and influencing decision-making, contributing to policy development, and ensuring operational effectiveness.
- Perform complex analysis of data from multiple sources to solve problems creatively and effectively.
- Communicate complex information, including sensitive details, to diverse audiences.
- Influence or convince stakeholders to achieve outcomes aligned with Barclays’ values and mindset.
Requirements
- Deep practical project delivery expertise across enterprise-grade networks, including BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, multicast, QoS, MPLS, private circuits, metro Ethernet, and network segmentation.
- Considerable experience designing, implementing, and operating modern data center environments, including spine-leaf architectures, VXLAN/EVPN, DCI, ACI, and DWDM.
- Extensive experience in designing and implementing complex data networks with Cisco, Arista, Fortinet, and F5 platforms.
- Proven experience designing and operating enterprise Wi-Fi and SD-WAN solutions.
- Good understanding of resiliency and traffic engineering patterns, including redundancy models, segmentation, firewall integration, and traffic management.
- Ability to assess and improve platform availability.
- Practical experience implementing network automation using Cisco NSO, Ansible, and/or Python, with a focus on consistency, scale, and risk reduction.
- Experience designing and supporting enterprise connectivity to AWS and/or Azure, including hybrid architectures, routing integration, and secure connectivity patterns.
- Recognized as a domain or platform subject matter expert.

Pay
Base salary range: $120,000 – $175,000.
