Senior Network Engineer

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage a redundant virtual core, 300+ switches, and 1,350+ WAPs.
  • Oversee authentication (NAC) and interconnects for SAN storage, VOIP, and virtual environments.
  • Design and audit complex firewall configurations (virtual and cloud) using industry best practices.
  • Monitor logs for incident investigation and mitigate emerging security risks.
  • Lead capacity planning and automated monitoring initiatives.
  • Conduct research to update network architecture, firmware, and configuration standards.
  • Document and maintain architecture diagrams, change management logs, and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Ensure alignment with accessibility and regulatory standards.
  • Partner with the Five Colleges, Inc. consortium and participate in campus-wide committees to support educational and business goals.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • 3–6 years in enterprise network administration (Juniper, Aruba, or Cisco).
  • 5+ years managing enterprise wireless (Aruba, Cisco).
  • Expertise in wireless protocols, NAC (e.g., ClearPass), and enterprise firewall/VPN solutions (Palo Alto, Checkpoint).
  • Proven ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical faculty, students, and staff.
  • High level of organization, professional tact, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with DNS/DHCP management (Bind, Route53, Kea).
  • Proficiency with wireless survey tools (Ekahau, AirMagnet).
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (Python, Perl) for task automation.
  • Experience working in higher ed.
