About the role
The City of Oxnard seeks a Senior Network Engineer to manage and enhance its network infrastructure. Key responsibilities include overseeing network operations, troubleshooting, and maintaining security and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day operations of firewalls, switches, wireless systems, and ISP connections.
- Diagnose and resolve network issues promptly to minimize downtime and maintain service continuity.
- Manage internal changes for firewall and routing.
- Implement and manage network monitoring tools to proactively identify and address potential issues.
- Apply patches and updates to network device software, maintaining compliance with security standards.
- Configure and manage network services to support seamless connectivity and address resolution.
- Plan and execute the lifecycle of network hardware and software, from procurement to decommissioning.
- Ensure operational readiness through thorough documentation, change control, and knowledge sharing.
- Work cross-functionally with stakeholders and non-technical business users.
Requirements
- Five (5) years of hands-on experience with network engineering disciplines such as firewalls, switches, wireless systems, and ISP coordination.
- Knowledgeable in power management, rack/cable management, data center A/C, and network monitoring.
- Proficient in software patching, DNS/DHCP/WINS management, and lifecycle management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Information Technology, or related field.
- Valid CA Class C Driver's License.
- Licenses/Certifications: Valid licenses/certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent preferred.
Skills
- Technical guidance and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Design, implement, and maintain scalable and secure IT solutions.
- Conduct technical evaluations, feasibility studies, and cost-benefit analyses for IT initiatives and investments.
- Staying current with industry trends and advancements to recommend and implement innovative solutions.

Pay
$120,000 - $140,000 annually.
Schedule
The normal work week is Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 6:00 pm with every other Friday off. Depending on area of assignment, staff may be assigned to shifts outside the standard work hours. This position may be required to work additional hours in response to peaks in workloads and changes in department needs.
