About the role

The Senior Network Analyst plays a key role in maintaining and advancing the network infrastructure that supports critical transit operations across the region. This role serves as a technical leader responsible for analyzing network performance, troubleshooting complex issues, supporting network security initiatives, and leading network-related projects.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and participates in the work of staff in managing projects including directing small to large network projects;
  • Trains customers, staff, and others as needed in a formal setting, in a group, or one-on-one;
  • Captures, installs, and maintains local area, wide area, and wireless networks;
  • Measures volume and performance of network traffic;
  • Analyzes network problems and implements solutions;
  • Maintains technical and functional competency in the applications utilized by the assigned department;
  • Monitors network operations and configurations to identify opportunities to improve network performance;
  • Reviews and evaluates work products, methods and procedures, and identifies and resolves problems;
  • Develops and implements system improvements to enhance operating efficiencies;
  • Identifies equipment requirements and develops specifications for enterprise network designs;
  • Installs, maintains, and upgrades control program software for routers, bridges, switches, firewalls and other network equipment;
  • Recommends and installs additional and replacement routers, bridges, switches, firewalls, and other network equipment;
  • Documents installation and configuration procedures;
  • Communicates project status, resolving project issues, problems, and changes and prepares project status reports;
  • Manages projects using VTA personnel, consultants, and vendors, as needed;
  • May be required to monitor project expenditures and purchase equipment, recommending adjustments as necessary;
  • Ensures that network projects are completed and meet the required objectives;
  • Maintains technical and functional competency in the applications utilized by the assigned department;
  • Performs related duties as required.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Sufficient training, education, and experience maintaining computer networks to demonstrate possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Development of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is typically obtained through a combination of training and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a four-year degree in computer science or a related field, and four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience performing technical and analytical tasks in support of local area, wide area, and wireless computer network systems.

Qualifications

Additional applicable experience providing technical and analytical support for computer networks substitutes for college education on a year for year basis.

Methods and techniques used in data processing;
Methods and techniques used in local area, wide area, and wireless network design;
Principles and practices of maintaining and managing networks;
Advanced computer network troubleshooting techniques;
Principles and practices of network security;
Methods and techniques for analyzing a variety of network operation and maintenance problems and concerns;
Diagnostics utilities used in a multi-platform environment;
Project procurement process in the public sector;
Work planning and project management techniques;
Principles and practices of lead supervision and training.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $120,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

This position is full-time and requires flexibility to work irregular hours, weekends, and holidays including on-call (24/7/365).
