About the role

The award-winning Las Vegas-Clark County Library District is currently hiring for a Senior Network Administrator with the IT Department.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, implements, administers, and supports enterprise LAN, WAN, VPN, SD-WAN, and wireless network infrastructure across the District.
  • Serves as the primary administrator for Fortinet security platforms, including FortiGate firewalls, security policies, NAT, IPS, web filtering, SSL inspection, VPN configuration, high availability, logging, and firmware lifecycle management.
  • Maintains comprehensive and accurate documentation of network topology, firewall configurations, IP schema, VPN tunnels, cloud connectivity, and operational procedures.
  • Evaluates emerging technologies and makes recommendations for improvements to network performance, security, redundancy, and scalability.
  • Participates in vulnerability remediation efforts related to network infrastructure, firewall exposures, access control weaknesses, and configuration hardening.
  • Collaborates with cybersecurity, systems, and support teams to strengthen the District’s overall security posture and ensure secure delivery of technology services.
  • Provides advanced technical guidance and mentorship to IT staff and assist with escalation support for network-related incidents.
  • Performs routine maintenance, upgrades, patching, configuration backups, and disaster recovery readiness for network and security infrastructure.
  • Develops and maintains standards for secure network architecture, firewall rule management, VPN deployment, and administrative access control.
  • Investigates and resolves complex network, firewall, and connectivity issues using packet analysis, system logs, monitoring platforms, and structured troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Supports and maintains Microsoft Azure network-related resources, such as virtual networks, network security groups, private connectivity, and secure communication between cloud and on-premises systems.
  • Participates in after-hours maintenance windows, emergency response, and on-call support as needed to maintain critical infrastructure operations.

Requirements

Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field.

Experience Required: Five (5) to seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in network administration, network security, or infrastructure engineering.

Preferred: Industry certifications such as Fortinet NSE / FCF / FCA, CCNA, CCNP, Network+, Security+, AZ-104, AZ-700, SC-300, or equivalent.

Physical Requirements: Essential and marginal functions may require standing and walking, frequent light lifting (5 - 10 pounds) and moderate lifting (12 - 20 pounds); occasional heavy lifting or moving (50 - 100 pounds); frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and pushing; the continuous operation of hand or power tools to very exacting tolerances, calling for full coordination of sensory and manipulative ability; and standing or utilizing a keyboard for extended periods of time. This position operates in a professional library and administrative technology environment and may require travel between District locations. The role may also require after-hours, weekend, and on-call availability for maintenance, upgrades, incident response, and emergency troubleshooting.

Demonstrated experience administering enterprise firewalls, preferably Fortinet FortiGate solutions in a production environment.

Experience with FortiAnalyzer, FortiManager, FortiAuthenticator, or other Fortinet ecosystem tools.

Strong experience with core networking technologies and protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, switching, VPNs, NAT, wireless networking, and network segmentation.

Hands-on experience with network monitoring, diagnostics, log analysis, and performance tuning.

Experience supporting Microsoft Azure environments and Microsoft Entra ID integration in hybrid enterprise settings.

Ability to identify security risks, propose mitigations, and implement best practices in a methodical and well-documented manner.

Ability to collaborate at a high level and customer-service mindset in supporting District operations, including analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills, including work within public sector, education, or multi-site enterprise environments.

Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles related to network infrastructure, secure access, hardening, least privilege, identity integration, and threat mitigation.

Familiarity with compliance-driven security controls, audit support, and business continuity/disaster recovery planning.

Virtualization, cloud migrations, or hybrid infrastructure modernization initiatives.
