About the role

HJF is seeking a Senior Molecular Genetic Laboratory Manager to supervise a clinical research laboratory supporting DoD/DHA Operational Medicine, GME, and AMC capability gaps. This role oversees senior and junior laboratory members, coordinates histotechnician activities within the anatomic pathology laboratory, and manages biospecimen bank coordination in collaboration with the basic science director.

Responsibilities

  • Identify disease situations and design proper laboratory support for projects.
  • Supervise and train laboratory personnel in safety and quality control protocols.
  • Maintain standard operating procedures (SOP) for the laboratory.
  • Assist providers in ensuring tests are ordered and collected according to SOP.
  • Create and present abstracts and papers at scientific conferences; support key projects and grants.
  • Uphold policies and procedures based on certifying organizations (e.g., CLIA, OSHA, CAP).
  • Coordinate performance and compliance of clinical/research laboratory studies, ensuring familiarity with HIPAA, JHACHO, and OHRP standards.
  • Obtain and ensure study approval; coordinate submission of annual and final reports to regulatory agencies.
  • Coordinate/assist with audits performed by study sponsors.
  • Follow up on patient orders to ensure prompt, efficient, and accurate laboratory test results.
  • Assist staff in maintaining acceptable Quality Control specimen and data per protocols.
  • Coordinate quality assurance projects, including record reviews and protocol submissions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, including required training.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Direct authority over hiring, disciplinary action, starting salaries, merit increases, and performance evaluations.
  • Direct work activities of laboratory personnel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a science-related field (Master’s Degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 9–10 years of experience, with at least 4 years in a supervisory laboratory role.
  • Advanced understanding of CLIA, OSHA, and CAP requirements.
  • Experience writing standard operating procedures or laboratory protocols for accreditation.
  • Experience developing and maintaining research studies involving laboratory testing.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust Background Check.
  • Education and experience in microbiology equivalent to an MT (ASCP).

  • Knowledge of a wide variety of laboratory techniques.

  • Strong research knowledge and ability to apply it in a laboratory setting.

Work Environment

This position is primarily based in a laboratory setting.

Pay

The annual salary range for this position is $93,100–$143,000, with actual salary determined based on experience and education.
