About the role
The Senior Mexico Highway Specialist position is responsible for managing Mexico and cross-border over the road transportation. This role partners with Sales, Operations, Customers, and Carrier Partners to drive strategic growth and operational excellence in Mexico and cross-border transportation.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with Agents, sales and operations being wholly responsible for customer success on Mexico cross-border shipments.
- Strategic Development of Mexico cross-border operations, design and implement strategies for Mexico and cross-border operations to support organizational growth objectives.
- Collaborate with Agents, sales and pricing teams on RFP’s, project bids, and market positioning to secure new business.
- Negotiate transportation expenses with carriers and other suppliers and determine lane and load level revenue on customer business.
- Set profit margins and regularly review profitability to improve overall customer and LOB yield.
- Lead initiatives that require analysis, planning, and decision making to deliver cost effective, compliant, and high-quality transportation solutions while maintaining strong customer partnerships and aligning with organizational goals.
- Maintain a cross-border carrier matrix with new and existing carriers by region and specialty.
- Train and support internal operations teams on customs regulations, trade compliance, and best practices for cross-border procedures.
- Directs and monitors shipment executions with internal teams, resolve escalation issues, and ensure positive customer experience.
- Serve as key liaison with customers, providing solutions and insights that enhance service performance and strengthen partnerships.
- Aid Agents and sales in customer and carrier meetings; track YTD quotes and wins.
- Identify process enhancements and lead initiatives to improve operational efficiency and profitability.
- Work with internal teams and leadership to align operational strategies, share market intelligence, and provide critical insights to cross-border highway markets.
- Comply with all company policies, safety rules, and procedures; perform tasks to support customer needs and company goals.
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of US-Mexico customs regulations, trade compliance, and cross-border transportation processes.
- Understanding of safety standards, DOT/FMCSA regulations, and Mexican SCT requirements.
- Ability to analyze market trends, develop pricing strategies, and manage profitability metrics.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to resolve complex operational challenges.
- Strong negotiation, presentation, and relationship management skills.
- Ability to adapt to rapidly changing customer requests and requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgement and discretion to meet company goals.
- Ability to manage seasonally-heavy workloads.
- Proficiency in Transportation Management Systems (TMS), ERP Platforms, and intermediate Microsoft application skills.
- Strong interpersonal and demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including excellent telephone skills.
- Professional fluency in English and Spanish (written and verbal) required.
- Willingness to travel as needed for carrier development and customer engagement.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required, four year degree in transportation or business strongly preferred.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, or supply chain management, with a focus on Mexico and cross-border operations strongly preferred.
- Proven track record of strategic decision-making and leadership in carrier development, pricing, and operational execution.
