Senior Metallurgist

Applied Technical Services, LLC (ATS) is a leading provider of critical testing, inspection, certification, and compliance services, serving clients across manufacturing, power generation, aerospace, medical, and defense industries. The Miami Valley Materials Testing Center (MVMTC), an A2LA-accredited laboratory and part of the ATS family, offers comprehensive single-source testing, analysis, and consultation services for automotive, aerospace, medical, and other industries.
The Senior Metallurgist will conduct tests related to the structure and properties (physical, mechanical, and chemical) of materials to address client needs. This role involves using techniques such as optical and electron microscopes and performing failure analysis of metallic and nonmetallic materials to identify failure mechanisms, contributing factors, causes, and preventive actions.
Responsibilities
- Perform tests and failure analysis with full data gathering, interpretation, and report writing.
- Work on high-complexity projects and independently design test protocols for failure analyses and materials problem-solving.
- Develop test procedures to determine interactions between different materials and environments.
- Consistently identify failure mechanisms, contributing factors, causes, and preventive actions.
- Provide oversight and training to other team members to grow technical expertise and capability in the laboratory.
- Manage complex and non-routine metallurgy, interdepartmental, and failure analysis projects.
- Review metallurgy and failure analysis reports.
- Consult with customers to identify testing needs, answer technical questions, and provide status updates; assist in quoting projects as needed.
- Consult with engineers in other divisions, including forensics, mechanical engineering, chemistry, and dimensional inspection.
- Assist with safety and quality audits.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
