Senior Metallurgist (1143139)

About the role

We're seeking a Senior Metallurgist with deep expertise in steel pipe manufacturing to serve as a key technical authority within a growing industrial operation. This role reports directly to the General Manager and provides leadership in metallurgy, welding, quality, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Define metallurgical requirements and ensure compliance with API, ASME, ASTM, and customer specifications.
• Analyze mechanical, chemical, and metallurgical test data for plate and finished pipe products.
• Provide technical leadership for welding metallurgy, including SAW process optimization and weld performance.
• Lead root cause investigations and drive corrective actions for quality and production issues.
• Support customer technical reviews, audits, and code interpretation discussions.
• Develop and qualify welding procedures (WPS/PQR) and maintain metallurgical standards.
• Mentor junior technical staff and promote best practices across quality and manufacturing teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
• 10+ years of metallurgy experience in steel plate, pipe, or heavy manufacturing.
• Direct experience with HFW and/or SAWL pipe production.
• Strong knowledge of API 5L, API 1104, API 2B, ASME Section IX, ASTM standards, and welding metallurgy.
• Proven problem-solving, customer-facing, and technical leadership skills.

Preferred qualifications

• NDT, ASNT, or CWI experience/certifications are a plus.

Pay

$115,000.00 - $150,000.00 USD annually
