Senior Merchant - Assortment Expansion & Last Mile Delivery
About the Role
As Sr Merchant, Business Development & Strategic Partnerships for Furniture (D71), you will build and own the external relationship ecosystem that enables Walmart to win in one of its biggest, most underleveraged industries. You will create and lead partnerships with major furniture retailers and sellers, own Walmart's last-mile and delivery strategy for Furniture, and develop new business models and revenue streams for this exciting growth opportunity.
Responsibilities
- Building Walmart's furniture partner ecosystem: Developing, managing, and growing a strategic portfolio of partnerships with major furniture brands, sellers, retailers, regional independents, and emerging digital-first brands.
- Owning last-mile strategy: Designing and executing Walmart's last-mile delivery approach for furniture.
- Creating new business models: Identifying and structuring marketplace, drop-ship, and service-based partnerships to expand Walmart's share of the furniture market without traditional buying risk.
- Collaborating across Walmart: Partnering with site, marketplace, supply chain, marketing, and finance teams to bring partnership strategies to life end-to-end.
- Delivering executional excellence and agility: Managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced retail environment, driving alignment, accountability, and flawless execution across channels and teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Merchandising, or related field and 4 years’ experience in merchandising, buying, financial planning, operations, or related area.
- OR 6 years’ experience in merchandising, buying, financial planning, operations, or related area.
- 1 year’s supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Microsoft Office.
- Experience negotiating with third-party suppliers.
- Additional supervisory experience.
- Master’s degree in Business or Merchandising.
Skills
- Track record of building complex, high-value partnerships.
- Creative thinking about business models.
- Understanding of the economics and operational complexity of large-parcel, last-mile delivery.
- Confident and credible negotiation skills with executive-level external partners.
- Ability to build and make progress on new initiatives within a large organization.
- Understanding of both brick-and-mortar and digital retail, with the ability to bridge the gap between the two.
- Tenacity, dedication, and ability to thrive with ownership, autonomy, and competition.
Pay
The annual salary range for this position is $90,000.00 - $180,000.00. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include stock.
