About the role

AstraZeneca is seeking a Senior Medical Science Liaison (MSL) to join their Hematology team in the territories of Michigan, Indiana, and Kentucky. This role serves as the local medical voice of AstraZeneca in the Hematology disease area and builds a local medical strategy to improve patient care and outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the local medical leader responsible for developing a tailored strategy to meet the AZ USMA priorities in the disease area, as well as the local specificities and patient needs.
  • Develop strong working relationships in different external business settings (e.g., academia, hospitals, managed markets, private practices).
  • Lead scientific exchanges with oncologists and key members of the MDT.
  • Lead peer-to-peer scientific/medical interactions.
  • Gather insights on the treatment landscape, evolving healthcare environment and practice, barriers to optimal treatment and opportunities to improve outcomes of patients with cancer.
  • Discuss data and educational gaps with External Scientific Experts (ESEs) to ensure adequate use of our medicines and to inform our medical affairs strategy to address patient needs.
  • Stay current with scientific knowledge and attend relevant scientific meetings and conferences.
  • Collaborate with Clin ops on trials from feasibility to execution.

Requirements

  • Advanced scientific degree required (PharmD, MD/DO, PhD, PA or NP) in a relevant health science or clinical discipline.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly in written documentation, one-on-one conversations and in small group dialogues.
  • Ability to navigate within a matrix environment.
  • 4+ years of MSL experience or relevant therapeutic area experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in discussing scientific content and context to multiple audiences.
  • Strong understanding of clinical study design and protocols.
  • Basic understanding of the Healthcare system, clinical trial methodology, statistics and regulatory environment.
  • Excellent project management ability.
  • Ability to travel (40-60% by car, train and plane domestic).

Qualifications

  • Doctorate strongly preferred in a health science or clinical discipline.
  • Relevant hematology/oncology clinical experience.
