About the role
Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring an experienced Sr. Laboratory Scientist to work full nights in Transfusion Services. A sign-on bonus of up to $20,000 is available for qualified candidates.
As a Sr. Laboratory Scientist, you will perform laboratory testing, interpret results using scientific knowledge and principles of test procedures and disease processes, and recommend contingency testing. You will also develop, maintain, and manage daily technical operations, including staff training and education, implementation of instrumentation, and accreditation readiness.
Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is a 525-bed tertiary care facility and the only Level I Adult Trauma Center and burn trauma unit in Hampton Roads. It serves as the primary teaching hospital for Eastern Virginia Medical School and is home to Sentara Heart Hospital, Nightingale Regional Air Ambulance, and specialized services in heart and vascular, neurosciences, neurosurgery, urology, oncology, spine care, advanced imaging, behavioral health, maternity, women’s health, and a state-of-the-art neonatal intensive care unit. The hospital is a recognized accredited Comprehensive Stroke Center and a Magnet hospital for nursing excellence.
Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory testing and interpret test results using scientific knowledge and principles of test procedures and disease processes
- Recommend contingency testing

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or Biology/Chemical Science (required)
- ASCP, AMT, or AAB certification (required)
- 3 years of laboratory tech experience (required)
- Blood bank experience
