Senior Medical Director, Oncology (US Based, Must Speak Mandarin)
About the Role
The Senior Medical Director, Oncology is a senior medical leadership role responsible for shaping and executing Avance Clinical's oncology strategy across all phases of drug development, with a focus on solid tumors and early- to mid-phase trials, in China and the broader Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. The role serves as a primary oncology subject matter expert (SME) for Avance and its clients in China and APAC, with the primary objective of winning new oncology business through expert client engagement, high-impact pre-award input, and differentiated scientific leadership. The role provides strategic direction in oncology for Avance as a CRO and, on a project-specific basis, for each client, ensuring that oncology programs are medically robust, commercially competitive, locally feasible in China, and aligned with evolving Chinese and global standards of care and regulatory expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Support business development activities by helping to identify and qualify oncology opportunities originating in China and APAC, contributing to proposals, RFIs/RFPs, and client meetings as a client-facing technical expert and commercial partner.
- Build and maintain relationships with Chinese biotechs, pharmaceutical companies, and key opinion leaders (KOLs), helping to position Avance's Oncology Centre of Excellence as a preferred CRO partner in China and APAC.
- Represent Avance at relevant oncology and clinical research conferences in China and APAC, contributing to presentations, panel discussions, and other scientific or commercial activities that enhance Avance's brand.
Requirements
- Medical degree (MD or equivalent) is required.
- Specialist qualification, board certifications, or equivalent recognition in oncology or an oncology-related discipline is highly desirable.
- Registration as an oncologist in China is advantageous but not essential, as the role is not directly patient-facing.
- Significant experience in oncology clinical research in China, preferably including roles within biotechnology and/or CRO environments where you have a strong understanding of local operational & regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated success in client-facing, commercial or business development-oriented roles, combining deep technical expertise with the ability to influence, persuade, and "sell" solutions to sponsors.
- Experience attending and contributing to oncology or clinical research conferences in China and APAC.
- Oral & written fluency in Mandarin and English with the ability to discuss complex medical & scientific concepts & clinical research topics.
- The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growing CRO environment.
- Able to travel both within China, the wider APAC region & occasionally globally for conferences, client meetings and industry events.
