Senior Medical Assistant - Urology (Medical Center)

About the role

The Senior Medical Assistant - Urology position at Houston Methodist Medical Center is responsible for providing comprehensive support to urology patients under the supervision of physicians. This role requires a minimum of five years of medical assistant experience with a focus on highly complex, chronic disease management.

Responsibilities

• Prepares patients for examinations and treatments, including pre-visit planning and documentation.
• Assists with diagnostic procedures, such as EKGs, rapid strep tests, urinalyses, and urine pregnancy tests.
• Ensures patient safety and privacy by following infection control protocols and maintaining sterile environments.
• Coordinates patient care with other healthcare providers and external resources.
• Monitors patient progress and ensures adherence to treatment plans.
• Participates in quality improvement initiatives and maintains clinical documentation accuracy.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Five years of medical assistant experience with highly complex, chronic disease management or in a specialty discipline.
• A certification as a Certified Medical Assistant through AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, NHA, or Registered Medical Assistant, along with BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Certification as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).

Skills and Abilities

• Demonstrated proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with patients, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
• Knowledge of medical practices and procedures, including the ability to assist with examinations, diagnostic procedures, and treatment plans.
• Ability to maintain accurate medical records and follow established policies and procedures.
• Proficiency in computer systems for documentation and work-related purposes.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Positive attitude and ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.
