Senior Mechanical Engineering Lead

About the role

The Senior Mechanical Engineering Lead for HVAC/Building Systems role at Farnsworth Group is responsible for managing multi-project HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and specialty piping system engineering and design for buildings in healthcare, commercial, industrial, and educational facilities. This role involves entrepreneurial responsibilities such as project management, mentoring, business development, and proposal writing.

Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate HVAC, plumbing, and specialty piping system construction drawings, including specifications.
• Perform construction administration, including submittal reviews and project revisions during construction.
• Prepare preliminary schematics through final designs for projects, including calculations, equipment selection, and layouts.
• Interface with other disciplines, clients, and contractors, leading projects to successful completion.
• Manage projects, provide leadership, mentoring, and coordination of the production staff.
• Avoidance of project design budget and schedule issues while pursuing quality results.
• Conduct quality control reviews of HVAC and plumbing design work done by others.
• Aid in business development activities, including writing fee proposals and conducting project scoping walks with potential clients.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering.
• 12+ years of professional experience in HVAC and plumbing design for buildings.
• Experience managing one or more client projects of various sizes.
• A Professional Engineering License (PE) is required.
• Design experience relative to medium/large commercial and institutional facilities.
• Strong familiarity with Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience with Carrier HAP, Trane Trace, or similar.
• Ability to be a strong and communicative team player in a multi-disciplinary environment, able to lead projects from start to finish.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including experience writing and editing specifications.
• Ability to contribute to several projects simultaneously.
