Essential Job Functions
- Lead business development efforts by identifying opportunities, assembling capture teams, leading proposal development, and supporting strategic marketing and client relationship activities.
- Direct project proposal development: defining technical approach, scope, schedule, staffing, and budgets.
- Manage program schedules, budgets, resource allocation, and project administration (reports, progress updates, cost tracking, invoicing).
- Provide senior technical leadership and final technical sign-off; resolve complex technical issues and act as the project technical point of contact.
- Oversee and approve engineering deliverables—drawings, calculations, specifications—to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with codes, standards, regulations, and company procedures.
- Lead mechanical equipment selection, sizing, and specifications to meet performance, technical, and budget requirements.
- Establish and enforce design quality-control processes and coordinate multi-discipline design integration (mechanical, electrical, structural, civil).
- Manage coordination with subconsultants, clients, permitting agencies, and other external stakeholders to advance project objectives.
- Provide day-to-day technical direction, assign tasks, monitor team performance, and deliver training; mentor and coach junior mechanical engineers.
- Promote and ensure adherence to company health, safety, and environmental policies across projects.
- Conduct site and client visits for design validation, coordination, commissioning, or troubleshooting; domestic and international travel as required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- A minimum of 20 years of professional experience in mechanical engineering.
- Demonstrated experience in the design and analysis of mechanical equipment and systems for water resources and navigation structures (e.g., hydraulic power units, gates, valves, bulkheads, pumps, piping, cranes, hoists).
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) registration in Mechanical Engineering.
- Demonstrated business development experience: identifying opportunities, leading capture efforts, and proposal development.
- Proven experience directing engineering teams in the development of construction documents, specifications, technical reports, and design deliverables.
- Strong working knowledge of industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, ASTM, NEMA).
- Demonstrated proficiency with finite element and design tools such as SolidWorks, ANSYS, and Inventor.
- Experience in stress analysis and structural mechanics.
- Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills, demonstrated through professional experience and technical deliverables.
- Ability to use Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, Teams and Project.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Experience in a multi-disciplinary design firm or organization with client-facing responsibilities.
- Experience with dams, navigation locks, fish passage facilities, flood control structures, hydroelectric facilities, and/or port facilities.
- Understanding of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) design standards and practices.
- Project management experience, including developing project scope, schedule, budget, and client management.
