About the role
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead mechanical design project teams to create world class designs for various power generation facilities, including traditional gas generation, renewable generation, and energy storage.
Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
- Apply expert knowledge of mechanical concepts, practices, codes, and procedures.
- Calculate size requirements of mechanical equipment and material to develop procurement specifications, lists, datasheets, and drawings.
- Review mechanical supplier or mechanical contractor quotes, complete technical bid summaries, and write purchase recommendations.
- Develop mechanical engineering design documents including design notes, calculations, reports, flow modelling summaries, process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, sketches, plan drawings, section drawings, isometrics, pipe supports, datasheets, details, specifications, 3D model routing recommendations, and other related documents.
- Quality review of mechanical engineering design completed by co-workers.
- Review mechanical supplier documents for conformance to design specifications; provide documents or drawing redlines as required.
- Review construction contractor submittals and answer technical requests for information during their procurement and construction activities.
- Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
- Build effective relationships with existing clients, customers, and contractors and develop new business opportunities.
- Participate in sales and marketing efforts and identify key pursuits.
- Lead the development of project schedule, scope, budget, staffing, and project planning.
- Prepare and present project budgets and cost estimates. Report on project performance.
- Manage mechanical budget on projects.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to the mechanical engineering practice.
- Mentor and guide less experienced engineers.
- Apply knowledge and experience to complex projects, find non-standard design solutions.
- Ensure QA/QC process adherence.
- Communicate effectively with other engineering disciplines.
- Comply with company and site safety policies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program, or Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
- Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering a plus.
- 7 years mechanical engineering experience, with EPC project experience preferred.
- Professional Engineering License (PE) strongly preferred.
- Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical equipment design codes (ASME, ANSI, API, PIP, NACE).
- Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
- Additional software skills including AFT Fathom, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, MicroStation, Smartplant, and other 3D rendering programs preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members.
- Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
- Ability to travel (25% of the time).

$145,000.00 - $220,000.00 yearly
