What You’ll Do:
- Project Management and Engineering Excellence: Lead mechanical design projects, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems, from schematics through construction, ensuring impactful and efficient solutions for institutional, commercial, and automotive research buildings.
- Engineering Calculations: Perform accurate calculations and utilize load calculation software for heating and cooling loads and energy analyses.
- AutoCAD/Revit Coordination: Lead coordination efforts between departments using AutoCAD and Revit, ensuring seamless integration and collaboration across multi-discipline and multi-company/consultant project teams.
- Collaborative Communication: Work with project managers, assisting with model presentations and client meetings across diverse project teams. Strong external communication with clients, consultants and contractors.
- Design and Implementation: Accomplish design tasks of limited scope, plan, implement, and lead mechanical design projects, determining resource requirements, staff allocation, project timelines, and budgetary needs.
- Guidance and Compliance: Provide guidance to engineering staff, review construction drawings for code compliance and technical accuracy, and maintain familiarity with current processes to enhance efficiency and productivity.
- Field Site Visits and Inspections: Conduct field site visits to inspect existing equipment, systems, and facilities, ensuring conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.
- Proposal Development: Review, understand, and respond to request for proposals, writing and submitting project proposals to clients.
- Seal documents in your discipline for projects you oversee
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in an accredited Mechanical Engineering program or in a related engineering discipline
- Licensed Professional Mechanical Engineer (PE) in Michigan
- 10+ years of experience designing mechanical building systems (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, temperature controls) for institutional, commercial, or automotive research facilities
- Experience with Revit and AutoCAD
- Experience with engineering software and load calculation programs
- An understanding of construction codes, architecture, and engineering principles
- Willingness and ability to travel to project sites as needed
