Key Responsibilities
- Perform hydraulic, mechanical, process, and piping system design.
- Support projects through feasibility studies, conceptual engineering, detailed design, and implementation phases.
- Develop calculations and hydraulic models for fluid transport systems, including slurry and process pipelines.
- Prepare and review engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, and equipment data sheets.
- Produce and review P&IDs, schematics, general arrangements, and construction drawings.
- Assist with quantity takeoffs, budgeting, and cost estimation activities.
- Cookordination with equipment suppliers, manufacturers, contractors, and project stakeholders.
- Support development of control philosophies and operational requirements.
- Create and review 3D models of piping systems, equipment layouts, structural supports, and related infrastructure.
- Lead mechanical engineering work streams while managing scope, schedule, budget, and client expectations.
Technical Requirements
- Strong understanding of pumps, turbines, valves, gates, and other fluid-control equipment.
- Familiarity with applicable industry standards and codes including ASME, API, ASTM, AWWA, ANSI, ISO, and related design requirements.
- Working knowledge of instrumentation, controls, and electrical systems to facilitate cross-disciplinary coordination.
- Experience with hydraulic conveyance systems and fluid transport applications.
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; approximately 8-15 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Prior experience with 3D modeling software such as Plant 3D, AutoCAD 3D, Revit, SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar platforms.
- Knowledge of hydraulic systems, piping design, and rotating equipment.
Preferred
- Experience with balance-of-plant (BOP) systems for industrial or power generation facilities.
- Hydraulic transient analysis and CFD modeling experience.
- Hydropower, water resources, mining, or industrial process project experience.
- Pipe stress analysis experience.
- Familiarity with software such as ANSYS, AFT Fathom, AFT Impulse, CAESAR II, Revit, Plant 3D, SolidWorks, or Inventor.
- Project management or project leadership experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure preferred.
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline preferred.
- Spanish language proficiency is considered an asset.
Work Environment
This position involves a combination of office-based engineering and occasional field assignments. Travel may be required depending on project needs. Candidates should be comfortable working at active industrial, energy, and infrastructure sites while adhering to applicable safety standards and regulations.
