About the role

The Senior Mechanical Engineer makes independent decisions on engineering problems and methods, using advanced techniques and extending theories and practices of the field. This role provides supervision and guidance on overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters, developing solutions for larger and highly complex engineering projects. The Mechanical Engineer will develop technical expertise, support others through mentoring, and ensure projects are delivered on-time, within budget, with high technical quality and client satisfaction.

Responsibilities

• Ensures company technical policies and procedures are followed during project execution.
• Leads the development of design approaches and concepts on assigned projects; requests assistance from senior technical staff as needed.
• Performs engineering studies, design analyses, and assists project managers in establishing budgets, cost estimates, and project schedules.
• Reviews shop drawings, records changes, and communicates directly with suppliers, contractors, and client representatives.
• Performs on-site inspections during construction and coordinates design requirements with contractors and equipment suppliers.
• Develops innovative technical solutions and engineering methods to enhance efficiency, quality, and production.
• Supervises the scoping, implementation, and design of plans, including consultation services.
• Maintains the highest quality of design and review.
• Assists Project Managers in coordinating project designs with other disciplines, including attending project meetings.
• Contributes to proposal writing, cost estimating, and client presentations for future work.
• Provides feedback to Project Managers regarding technical staff performance for mid and end-of-year reviews.
• Develops a specialized niche within the company’s target markets.
• Maintains the overall group schedule of project deliverable milestones, billing objectives, and activity codes.
• Serves as an expert technical resource recognized by clients.
• Actively participates in professional organizations and client groups to enhance the firm’s technical reputation.
• Sets technical direction for specific disciplines on projects, delegates design tasks, and mentors junior staff.
• Assists in the performance management process by providing feedback for performance evaluations.

Requirements

• Professionally Licensed Engineer with a Bachelor’s (B.S.) in Engineering and at least 10 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Expertise in Central Boiler and Chiller plant design, including assessment of existing systems and design of new/upgraded systems.
• Experience with modeling software for central plants and associated piping thermal distribution systems, including pipe stress analysis and hydraulic modeling.
• Experience with high-performance, energy-efficient, and low/zero carbon systems, including geothermal heat pumps.
• Strong knowledge of central plant instrumentation and controls.
