Senior Mechanical Engineer - Gas & Energy
About the Role
DLR Group is an integrated design firm with a promise to elevate the human experience through design. We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design of mechanical systems for energy and infrastructure projects, with an emphasis on gas piping for utility-scale generators, combined heat and power (CHP) systems, and emerging technologies in energy production (5MW to 500+MW). This role serves developers, utilities, data centers, mission-critical, federal, public, and private clients.
As part of our integrated design team, you will collaborate closely with other disciplines to produce highly integrated designs, manage project schedules, and lead mechanical engineering design teams to deliver high-quality construction documents using AutoCAD or Revit.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with engineers and clients as part of our integrated design process.
- Create and coordinate documents using AutoCAD or Revit.
- Perform mechanical, plumbing, and gas piping calculations, including code research.
- Write and review specifications.
- Review shop drawings, RFIs, and submittals.
- Conduct site visits as needed.
- Manage mechanical project teams and/or interdisciplinary project teams.
- Lead the design process of mechanical systems and prepare detailed mechanical engineering drawings and calculations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
- 10+ years of experience working as a mechanical engineer, including design of HVAC systems, central utility plants, plumbing, fire suppression systems, and gas piping.
- Working knowledge of the design and construction process and the ability to communicate with professionals of other disciplines.
- Proficiency in Autodesk Revit and/or Autodesk AutoCAD.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with BIM, including Autodesk Revit workflow.
- Experience with P&ID development.
- Experience with fuel systems and generator integration.
- Experience with PIPE-FLO, SmartPlant, or AutoCAD Plant 3D.
