About the role
Piper Companies is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer – Chassis with strong experience designing, developing, and optimizing mechanical hardware systems for high-performance computing, server, networking, and data center applications. The ideal candidate must be willing to work onsite 5 days a week in Saratoga, CA.
Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical architecture and design of rack-mounted computing systems, including sheet-metal chassis, electronics enclosures, structural frames, and board-level mounting structures
- Design manufacturable sheet-metal components and assemblies, including bending and stamping features, PEM hardware integration, tolerance stack-up analysis, structural reinforcement, and EMI/grounding considerations
- Develop and optimize card cages, power supply mounting structures, cable management systems, and other chassis subsystems for high-density electronics platforms
- Collaborate with thermal engineering teams to integrate liquid cooling hardware, including cold plates, manifolds, airflow ducting, and flow-management structures
- Create manufacturing-ready CAD models, drawings, and documentation while driving Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) initiatives
- Support prototype builds, EVT/DVT/PVT validation, production ramp activities, and supplier/ODM engagement to ensure successful product launches
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, or a related engineering discipline
- 7+ years of experience designing mechanical systems for electronics hardware, with preference for 10+ years in server, networking, storage, or data center hardware environments
- Hands-on experience designing sheet-metal chassis and electronics enclosures for rack-mounted systems from concept through production
- Strong knowledge of sheet-metal fabrication processes, including bending, stamping, PEM hardware integration, tolerance stack-up analysis, and assembly optimization
- Experience with Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), FMEA, and reliability engineering methodologies
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, NX, or equivalent mechanical design tools
- Experience integrating liquid cooling solutions, including cold plates, manifolds, and other thermal management hardware
- Familiarity with structural and thermal simulation tools such as ANSYS Mechanical, Icepak, Flotherm, or similar analysis platforms
- Experience supporting EVT, DVT, and PVT hardware development cycles as well as production ramp and manufacturing transfer activities
Skills
- Experience with Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA)
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, NX

Pay
Salary range: $210,000 - $260,000 annually
