Skills
- Solves complex technical issues on projects
- Assesses project requirements, breaks down projects into tasks, works with Project Managers on scope, budget, and staffing
- Writes scope of work for mechanical design based on preliminary reviews and client meetings
- Prepares engineering studies and schematic designs for new systems
- Analyzes operation of existing systems
- Works with code officials and other design professionals on interpretations or exceptions to building codes
- Assigns and reviews work of project design teams
- Checks project progress and alerts Project Managers to changes in scope or additional services
- Reviews contractor applications for payments
- Coordinates all aspects of project document completion internally and externally with clients and other design professionals
- Prepares or reviews construction budgets based on experience and project scope
- Supervises staff on multiple projects, provides management, technical leadership, and support to team members
- Verifies that all work is completed as planned and scheduled in compliance with both client and company quality assurance practices
- Mentors younger staff
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in mechanical engineering
- 10 years of design experience
- Proficiency in the latest versions of AutoCAD, Revit, and design/calculation software
- PE certification preferred
- Strong technical knowledge
- Ability to interface with clients
- Experience working on multiple concurrent projects
- Expert knowledge of design and building codes
- Excellent communication skills
- Thorough understanding of the construction process
