About the role

The Next Generation Structures Team within the Hardware Engineering organization at Symbotic is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is part of a fast-growing group that focuses on innovation and new product development from concept to commercialization. The products in focus are strategically important to the business.

Responsibilities

  • Define the mechanical architecture and lead the design and development of complex structural and electromechanical systems for mobile robots.
  • Help drive advanced analysis efforts, including high-fidelity FEA, tolerance analysis, and system-level optimization, to ensure performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Partner closely with cross-functional leaders across electrical, software, controls, manufacturing, and quality to guide system integration and influence product strategy.
  • Identify critical technical challenges, develop scalable solutions, and lead continuous improvement initiatives across the mechanical organization.
  • Communicate complex technical decisions and trade-offs to both technical and executive audiences with clarity and influence.
  • Hands-on prototyping, testing, validation, and iteration to ensure designs meet performance and reliability targets.
  • Own and contribute to the creation of detailed drawings, GD&T, tolerance stacks, BOMs, and ECOs, and set standards for documentation of quality across the team.
  • Guide engineers at multiple levels, providing technical direction, design reviews, and long-term skill development.
  • Travel up to 20%.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant industry experience, including substantial ownership of complex electromechanical systems.
  • Deep expertise in mechanical design principles, robotics hardware, and electromechanical integration.
  • Expert-level proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks preferred) and advanced experience with FEA tools such as SolidWorks Simulation or Ansys.
  • Demonstrated ability to architect systems and select motors, sensors, actuators, and structural components for performance and reliability.
  • Extensive experience with manufacturing processes including machining, casting, sheet metal, plastics, and proto-to-production transitions.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills with a proven ability to make high-impact technical decisions in ambiguous environments.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills with experience influencing across cross-functional teams.
  • Passion for robotics, automation, and building high-performance hardware systems.
  • Experience in industrial robotics, automation, or material handling (preferred).
  • Advanced experience with PLM systems and DFMA principles (preferred).

Skills

  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and robotics hardware.

Pay

The base range for this position in the posted location is $125,000.00 - $171,600.00. However, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Schedule

Up to 20% travel may be required.
