About the role

The Denver office of SmithGroup is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their team. This role involves serving as the engineering leader through all stages of a project, leading and performing analysis, design, and documentation of HVAC systems and controls, assisting in establishing project goals, budgets, and schedules, meeting with clients and project teams, presenting engineering design solutions, and mentoring junior and intermediate level staff.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the engineering leader through all stages of a project of any size and play a larger role in the marketing of the studio and management of the discipline.
  • Lead and perform analysis, design and documentation of heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and controls.
  • Aid in establishing project goals, budgets and schedules, track project performance, and follow/enforce quality control procedures.
  • Meet with clients, project teams, code officials, contractors and others to address mechanical discipline issues and to develop effective working relationships.
  • Present engineering design solutions to client representatives and/or design review committees.
  • Serve as a mechanical systems specialist, conduct research in problem areas of considerable scope/complexity and devise solutions.
  • Contribute to SmithGroup sustainable design initiatives by using a variety of software to perform energy, heating and cooling load and computational fluid dynamic calculations.
  • Mentor junior and intermediate level staff and participate in performance coaching.
  • Participate in the recruitment and interviewing process as requested.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience working as a mechanical engineer designing HVAC, plumbing, fire suppression, sustainable design and automatic control systems, including experience performing energy modeling.
  • LEED AP preferred. Professional Engineer (PE) registration required.
  • The ability to lead and mentor others in area of expertise.
  • Working knowledge of the design and construction process and the ability to understand and communicate with professionals of other disciplines.
  • Working knowledge of Autodesk Revit and Microsoft Office Suite software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in dealing with internal and external clients.

Pay

The anticipated salary range for this position is $129,000 to $152,000 annually and you are eligible for a performance-based bonus each year.
