Senior Mechanical Engineer
Brief Description
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design and implementation of modular infrastructure solutions—such as containerized enclosures, skids, and factory-built assemblies—serving the Data Center, Utility, Fiber, and Telecommunications sectors. Operating within a multi-discipline civil/electrical/mechanical team, this role provides technical leadership across HVAC systems, piping/fluid systems, metal forming/fabrication, dynamic analysis, material selection, and control systems integration. The ideal candidate combines deep technical proficiency with practical manufacturing experience, driving projects from concept through detailed design, factory acceptance testing, commissioning, and handover.
About the Role
This role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related discipline) with 6–10 years of mechanical design experience in manufacturing or industrial product development. Master’s degree in Thermal Sciences, Mechanics, or a related focus is preferred. Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is preferred or can be obtained within a reasonable time frame. Strong capabilities in HVAC, piping/fluid systems, sheet metal/weldments, dynamic analysis, material selection, and controls integration are essential. Proficiency with 3D/2D CAD (e.g., Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, AutoCAD Mechanical) and PLM/PDM systems is required, along with expert application of GD&T and drafting standards. Hands-on experience with validation testing (FAT/SAT), commissioning, and field support is necessary, as is familiarity with FEA/CFD workflows and test correlation.
Responsibilities
- Design & Development Lead mechanical design for modular products (enclosures, skids, racks), including HVAC architecture, airflow/thermal design, ducting, coil selection, and control sequences.
- Engineer piping and fluid systems: develop P&IDs/isometrics, perform line sizing and pump calculations, specify valves/accessories, and define supports/insulation.
- Architect sheet metal and structural assemblies for manufacturability and durability; specify weld symbols, finishes, hardware, and inspection methods.
- Perform or direct dynamic/mechanical analyses (vibration, fatigue, handling/transport loads); review and approve FEA/CFD studies and test correlation.
- Drive ECO/MOC processes, redlines, as-built updates, and accurate metadata within PLM/PDM and document control systems.
- Create and maintain standard detail libraries, design checklists, and templates to improve repeatability and quality.
- Plan and manage engineering work across multiple concurrent projects; provide reliable estimates and status; identify and mitigate risks.
- Lead design reviews, HAZID/HAZOP, and manufacturability/constructability assessments; incorporate feedback into designs.
- Collaborate with vendors/OEMs: develop RFQs, conduct technical bid evaluations, review submittals/data sheets, and support make-vs-buy decisions with Supply Chain.
- Support fabrication and assembly on the factory floor; resolve build issues through clear dispositions (ECR/NCR) and rapid problem solving.
- Develop and execute FAT/SAT and commissioning procedures; support start-up and performance validation at customer sites as needed.
- Lead root-cause investigations and implement corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) to address quality, reliability, or performance gaps.
Requirements
- Clear, concise communicator—able to convey complex technical content to stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; decisive and accountable with sound engineering judgment.
- Highly organized, responsive, and effective at prioritizing in a fast-paced, multi-project environment.
- Collaborative leadership style with the ability to mentor peers and junior engineers and to influence cross-functional outcomes.
Qualifications
- Must be able to perform work in any environment and various weather conditions such as rain, sleet, snow and extreme cold and heat.
- Must be able to regularly use hands to grasp, pinch or pull materials.
- Must be able to feel and reach with hands and arms.
- Must frequently stand, walk, stoop, kneel or crouch.
- Must be able to climb in and out of equipment.
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 lbs., frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to pass the commercial driver’s vision test requirements.
