Senior Mechanical Engineer
About the role
HDR is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Michigan-based Power Generation team. The position involves leadership of the project mechanical team, coordination with other engineering disciplines, monitoring and communication of project status, and providing mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects on both a technical and contractual level.
Responsibilities
- Leadership of the project mechanical team
- Coordination with other engineering disciplines
- Monitoring and communication of project status
- Providing mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects
- Developing construction drawings, bid specifications, pipe stress analyses, mechanical equipment sizing calculations, technical memos, bid evaluations, code reviews, feasibility studies, reports and cost estimates
- Designing and specifying power generation systems for simple cycle, combined cycle, distributed generation, RICE, CHP, and renewables projects
- Leading project teams consisting of lead mechanical engineer, project engineering manager, and project manager
- Collaborating with engineers and designers from several other disciplines
- Communicating, leading, and organizing to lead a team of engineers, EITs, and/or designers
- Traveling for site surveys, technical conferences, client meetings, and monitoring of construction
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- A minimum of 10 years of experience
- Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (e.g., Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license)
- Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office as well as standard Power Market Sector design software (examples include PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit)

- Experience with industrial- and utility-scale power generation systems and equipment
