About the Role
The Senior Mechanical Engineer, PE is responsible for supervision and technical direction over a team of engineers and designers when functioning as a lead engineer. This includes total delivery of mechanical deliverables and services on time, within performance budget, and meeting quality expectations. This work will be performed under minimal supervision in the Beaumont office.
Responsibilities
- Utilize department design and drafting standards.
- Familiarize with project scope, specifications, and design criteria upon assignment to a project task team.
- Provide on-site assistance during startup.
- Accomplish engineering activities such as stress analysis, construction specifications, material procurement specifications, calculations, and piping estimates.
- Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies to determine efficient approaches to engineering tasks.
- Produce estimate-level preliminary designs and material take-offs suitable for project estimates.
- Create detail design calculations and sketches for materials of construction, organized for efficient checking and use by drafters/designers.
- Assist the drafting group in resolving routine layout and detailing problems.
- Consult with design leaders from other disciplines to ensure smooth information flow for project completion.
- Review and check vendor drawings and other discipline drawings for mechanical input.
- Design with efficient use of construction materials, emphasizing ease of construction and client expectations.
- Check calculations made by other engineers for accuracy and conformance to codes and specifications.
- Advise senior engineers concerning design or scope changes.
- Assist in developing and assembling scopes, drawings, and specifications for mechanical purchase inquiries.
- Develop construction specifications.
- Review fabrication drawings and construction submittals for conformance to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Perform fieldwork to gather data, check tie-ins, and provide construction support.
- Provide technical guidance to less experienced drafting and engineering personnel.
- Apply advanced engineering techniques and analysis to complex designs.
- Recognize and communicate scope and design changes promptly.
- Coordinate work activities with other staff members and discipline leads.
- Estimate and schedule professional service hours and assess progress and quality of mechanical work.
- Identify and develop work-sharing packages for interoffice execution support.
- Provide leadership to ensure communication and execution of work within scope, schedule, and budget.
Requirements
- Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Professional Engineering (PE) registration required.
- 15 or more years of relevant industrial experience in mechanical engineering.

- Knowledge of other disciplines' deliverable development to ensure design coordination.
- Understanding of schedule constraints and information requirements for mechanical deliverables.
- Ability to accurately estimate task completion.
- Development of construction cost estimates, detailed engineering schedules, and man-hour budgets.
- Determination of construction material quantities.
- Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.
- Leadership to deliver on commitments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong presentation and virtual team skills.
