Be our next Senior Mechanical Engineer Your work environment at EXP In this role, you will be part of the MEP team supporting Transit, Transportation, Commercial, Institutional, and Public Infrastructure projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. This position provides technical leadership for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems while working closely with multidisciplinary project teams and clients. Your Responsibilities Lead the design and delivery of HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems from planning through construction.Prepare and review engineering calculations, load analyses, one-line diagrams, studies, reports, and technical specifications.Perform equipment sizing, selection, and scheduling for airside and hydronic systems, including chillers, boilers, cooling towers, air handling units, pumps, air terminals, and water source heat pumps.Develop equipment room layouts and system concepts during planning, schematic design, and design development phases.Design and coordinate mechanical systems for transit stations, maintenance facilities, tunnels, commercial buildings, and other public infrastructure projects.Coordinate closely with architectural, structural, electrical, civil, fire protection, and other engineering disciplines.Review codes, standards, and client requirements to ensure project compliance, including applicable mechanical codes and NFPA standards.Conduct QA/QC reviews of calculations, drawings, specifications, and deliverables.Support project managers with scope development, budgeting, work planning, scheduling, and client communications.Review submittals, respond to RFIs, perform field investigations, and support construction administration activities.Develop sequences of operation and provide system analysis for HVAC and building performance.Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining quality, schedule, and budget objectives.Mentor and develop junior engineers and designers, providing technical guidance and leadership.Apply risk management and quality management procedures throughout project execution. The Skills And Knowledge You Bring Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.Professional Engineer (PE) license required; registration in Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia preferred.Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering design and project delivery.Strong expertise in HVAC systems design, load calculations, equipment selection, and mechanical system analysis.Experience preparing engineering calculations, specifications, technical reports, and construction documents.Knowledge of plumbing and fire protection system design and coordination.Experience with commercial, institutional, transit, transportation, rail, aviation, or other public infrastructure projects.Familiarity with transit station, underground facility, and tunnel ventilation design is highly desirable.Working knowledge of applicable building codes, mechanical codes, NFPA standards, and industry best practices, including NFPA 130.Proficiency with Revit MEP, AutoCAD, and industry-standard HVAC design software.Strong project management, communication, leadership, and client-facing skills.Demonstrated ability to mentor technical staff and lead multidisciplinary design teams.Experience with sustainable and energy-efficient building system design is preferred. The salary range for this role is $140,000 to $180,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's skill set, experience, certifications, and geographic location. Compensation may vary by location due to differences in the cost of labor.
