About the Role
A Senior Mechanical Engineer responsible for complete system design from conceptual level to production design of Marine Ventilation and Air Conditioning. They will plan and execute complex tasks, author technical documents, mentor peers, and interface across design, production, and program teams to ensure successful project execution.
Responsibilities
- Perform necessary calculations to validate design and submit required reports to classification society and/or customer.
- Use computer-assisted engineering software to design products or systems.
- Support all production and testing activities.
- Plan and execute complex tasks, own larger problem sets, evaluate design trade-offs, and identify risks.
- Author engineering documents and prepare purchase technical specifications.
- Interface actively with design, production, and program teams.
- Mentor peers, guide production with field-related issues/concerns, and review designs.
- Direct designers in the development of functional drawings.
- Direct and coordinate activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems for use onboard vessels.
- Research and analyze data, such as customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine the feasibility of a design or application.
- Guide personnel in the fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment, and the development of testing methods and procedures.
- Ensure that products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.
- Design products and systems to interface machines, hardware, and software, including controls, engines, machines, and thermal, hydraulic, or heat transfer systems.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or an equivalent similar engineering degree from an accredited university and 5 years' experience required.
- Alternatively, 15+ years of relevant industry experience OR a minimum of 5 years at an Engineer level or equivalent.
- Military or government design experience with supporting calculations/design reviews.
- Knowledge of marine insulation, machinery ventilation, and air conditioning.
- Knowledge of SNAME 4-16, ASHRAE, or similar design criteria.
Skills
- Self-motivated with excellent communication (written and oral) and leadership skills.
- Strong discipline mastery with the ability to adapt standards to unique situations and contribute to technical reviews.
- Responsible for technical outputs on systems.
- Familiarity with CFR, ABS, NVIC, SOLAS, and USCG rules and regulations for mechanical systems along with other applicable regulations.
