About the role
The Texas mechanical team at Arup is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a multi-disciplinary team based in Houston. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to innovative and sustainable solutions for clients across various industries.
Responsibilities
- Leading mechanical engineering designs and providing multi-disciplinary design leadership on projects.
- Designing mechanical systems including airside systems, heating and cooling hydronic plant systems, specialty exhaust systems, and steam systems.
- Collaborating with different stakeholders and code officials to deliver integrated projects through construction.
- Coordinating with multiple disciplines and working in conjunction with project managers to deliver comprehensive and coordinated design deliverables.
- Assisting, supervising or mentoring team members and delivering timely feedback and recognition to others.
- Maintaining strong client relations as it pertains to project delivery and repeat business.
- Preparing drawings, specifications, technical reports, and presentation materials and incorporating sustainable design methods in buildings.
- Presenting technical material in traditional and innovative ways for review by technical and non-technical audiences.
- Participating in local Professional Associations.
- Responsible for maintaining quality standards, commercial metrics, and client relations for projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or architectural engineering.
- 6 or more years of professional experience designing and building HVAC systems, including airside and hydronic system components for medium to large scale buildings for commercial, institutional, scientific or healthcare related uses.
- Revit MEP proficiency.
- Familiarity with codes and standards, specifically CMC, IECC/ASHRAE 90.1, LEED energy efficiency and indoor quality, and NFPA.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for team-based work.
- Presentation skills with colleagues, design & construction teams.
- Experience delegating work to others; experience as discipline lead on small to medium size projects or on a significant portion of a large project. Experience managing design effort to meet a stated budget.
- The ability to prioritize effectively, balance assigned work, and exceptional organization skills are required for our constantly evolving environment.
Preferred Skills
- Professional Engineering License in the US.
- LEED Accreditation or WELL Certification.
- Engineering analysis and energy modeling experience including whole building energy analysis, façade thermal analysis, and airflow modeling.

Hiring Range
The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Houston is $114,000 to $136,000 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary.
