About the role
AECOM’s Ohio Buildings + Places team is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and delivery of high-performance building systems across diverse market sectors. This hybrid role (Columbus, OH) is a senior technical leadership position for an experienced engineer who excels in complex HVAC design, cross-disciplinary coordination, and mentoring emerging talent.
Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership & Design
- Lead mechanical system design from concept through construction administration.
- Serve as the mechanical discipline lead, ensuring technical quality, code compliance, and constructability.
- Apply sound engineering judgment to system selection, energy performance, and lifecycle optimization.
- Maintain expertise in ASHRAE, IMC, IPC, IECC, and emerging technologies.
- Project Delivery & Coordination
- Produce calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
- Coverage of calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
- Coverage of calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
- Coordinate with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and specialty disciplines.
- Lead site investigations, review submittals and RFIs, and support construction administration.
- Deliver projects within defined scope, schedule, and budget.
- Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Mentor and review the work of junior engineers and designers.
- Provide clear, constructive technical feedback and support skill development.
- Establish yourself as a trusted technical leader within the Ohio B+P team and AECOM’s US practice.
- Proposals & Practice Support
- Contribute to proposals, scopes, fees, and technical narratives.
- Support best practices and continuous improvement within the mechanical discipline.
Qualifications
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 6+ years of relevant experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- PREFERRED: 10+ years in consulting engineering or design-build.
- Experience in federal, healthcare, lab, mission critical, and commercial projects.
- Knowledge of LEED and sustainable design.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and lead technical teams.
- Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.

Location: Columbus, Ohio (Hybrid)
U.S. work authorization sponsorship is not available for this position.
Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $130000 to $150000.
