About the role
The Kenworth Aftersales Engineering Department is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to help identify and resolve product field issues prioritized by customer impact and cost savings, improving customer uptime, and reducing warranty spend.
Responsibilities
- Participate in the design of heavy-duty trucks within the Aftersales Engineering group, with a focus on improving field reliability and quality.
- Analyze and troubleshoot field failures to find the root cause of symptoms in vehicle systems.
- Perform the design and development of assigned elements for: hoods, fittings, chassis, suspension, engine and after treatment systems.
- Provide interface documentation to wiring design, system architect(s), and mechanical design groups.
- Contribute to development of procedures and practices that ensure quality and reliable systems.
- In-depth analysis of warranty data to support issue identification and root cause analysis.
- Experience in using data to identify priorities and the drive to meet and exceed department and division goals.
- Integrate components, features, and requirements into Kenworth/PACCAR vehicles.
- Manage suppliers, engineering, and project management process to maintain schedule, quality and functionality.
- Track and report on progress toward warranty and downtime reduction goals.
- Plan and track validation testing of components.
- Support solution launches at vehicle assembly plants.
- Ensure industry leading quality and reliability is met, maintained, and exceeded on all components.
- Apply creativity to design tasks and propose innovative approaches to standard work.
- Work with cross functional teams on warranty reduction project initiation, design, validation, product release, and field support.
- Work through the Product Creation Process utilizing Tollgate to manage projects, report updates and utilize Six Sigma methodologies.
- Manage multiple priorities and goals simultaneously.
- Utilize Creo Parametric to create optimized parts and complex assemblies.
- Up to 10% travel.
Qualifications
- BSME or equivalent engineering degree required.
- Master’s degree in engineering and P.E. certificate are always a plus.
- 3-5+ years of experience required in the specification and design of complex automotive or commercial vehicle systems or industry-related background is strongly desired.
- Proficiency using Requirements Management tools, Systems Engineering tools, Pro/E or other 3D CAD software also desired.
- Competence in the use of personal computer software such as word processing, databases, and spreadsheets.
- Engineering knowledge of heavy-duty commercial truck safety systems, regulations, especially in the areas of operating, service, and performance environments.
- Experience creating engineering documentation including preparation of component drawings and diagrams.
- Experience responding to Requests for Engineering Information, writing Engineering Change Notices, test coordination, support for production, and customer service.
- Knowledge or understanding of SQL/databases.
- Solid understanding of Design for Six Sigma and Six Sigma techniques.
- Willing to learn and use new engineering processes and techniques and be resourceful in solving complex technical problems.
- Experience in product development and new product implementation.
- Able to work in a team environment.
- Experience with project management tools, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Willingness to grow personally and professionally.
