About the Role

Mazzetti, a global engineering design and consulting firm, is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Designer or Mechanical Engineer to support our growing presence in Hawaii. This individual will lead the planning, design, and delivery of complex mechanical building systems, partnering closely with multidisciplinary teams and clients to develop innovative solutions for projects in Hawaii and across the Western United States.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and documentation of HVAC and mechanical building systems for complex healthcare, science & technology, infrastructure, and commercial projects.
  • Perform advanced engineering analyses, calculations, and system studies.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, equipment selections, system layouts, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, and calculations for quality, accuracy, code compliance, and technical excellence.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes, HCAI requirements, industry standards, and Mazzetti quality expectations.
  • Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, contractors, vendors, and clients throughout project lifecycles.
  • Participate in project planning, scope development, scheduling, and multidisciplinary design coordination.
  • Support project pursuits by contributing technical expertise during proposals, interviews, and client presentations.
  • Support construction administration activities by responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, participating in field observations, and resolving technical issues during construction.
  • Perform quality control reviews of engineering drawings and specifications at key project milestones.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior designers and engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 8+ years of mechanical engineering or mechanical design experience within the AEC consulting industry.
  • Healthcare design experience strongly preferred, ideally including 4-6+ years designing hospitals, acute care facilities, and/or medical office buildings (MOBs).
  • Demonstrated experience leading mechanical design efforts on complex building projects from planning through construction.
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary project teams, clients, contractors, and design partners.
  • Advanced knowledge of HVAC and mechanical building systems design.
  • Strong understanding of applicable building codes, industry standards, and integrated building design.
  • Advanced proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and/or Bluebeam.
  • Working knowledge of healthcare requirements, codes, review processes, and construction administration is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with sustainable, resilient, and high-performance building design principles.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.

Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Hawaii preferred.

Pay

The typical salary range for a Mechanical Designer/Engineer in Hawaii is $108,000-$200,000. We are committed to equitable pay and will evaluate final compensation based on relevant experience and skills in alignment with internal equity and market data.

Schedule

This is a hybrid position based in Hawaii, with a combination of remote work, collaboration with local project teams, client meetings, and project site visits throughout Hawaii. Approximately 10-20% travel, primarily within Hawaii, with occasional domestic travel to support project collaboration on the west coast of the United States.
