Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (ONSITE)
About the role
The role is located in Winston Salem, North Carolina and is an onsite position. It is open to U.S. citizens, U.S. persons, or individuals authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
Responsibilities
- Design ownership of product life-cycle including initial concept through production and product support.
- Design mechanical components and assemblies with an emphasis on manufacturability, reliability and maintainability.
- Perform engineering calculations to determine the size and strength of components.
- Solve design problems and check computations contributing to analytical design decisions.
- Prepare, modify and release 2D & 3D CAD data (Siemens NX) to verify fit, form and function of mechanical designs meet all requirements.
- Verify structural acceptability of designs by providing engineering support for testing of prototypes for reliability and FAA certification through static & dynamic testing.
- Utilize engineering tools such as FMEAs, FEA and DFMA to validate design data.
- Evaluate materials and parts for use in new designs including communicating with current and new suppliers.
- Operate in a team environment with other functional areas providing input to design solutions.
- Conduct and participate in cross-functional design reviews.
- Prepare and present data, layouts, sketches, and notes for design proposals.
- Investigate pertinent design factors such as process selection, tooling needs, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replace ability, strength-weight efficiency.
- Design within contractual specification requirements and cost targets.
Qualifications
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.
- Prior experience in the design of mechanical components & systems for commercial aircraft seating products.
- Experience working with Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles.
- Familiarity with FAA requirements regarding certification, configuration & change management.
- Experience with surfacing/plastic parts/composite part design.
