Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

The Mechanical Products Team (MPT), Shipboard Effectors Department, is seeking Mechanical Engineers for our Louisville KY site in both development and production support across multiple programs.

Responsibilities

• Mechanical design, geometric dimensioning and tolerance, and engineering testing
• Preparation of technical analysis reports and presentations in design reviews
• Strong collaboration and communication skills in working with the Chief Engineer and team leaders
• Balancing program needs with available program resources
• Developing technical solutions to a wide range of complex problems related to the entire product life cycle including design, manufacture, integration and test
• Meet cost, schedule, quality, and performance requirements for the finished product
• Coincide with other disciplines in the development of design verification test plans and qualification test plans
• Coincide with operations (production) staff in the development of producible designs
• Occasional travel to suppliers may be required to resolve production issues, technical performance issues or attend critical program engineering reviews
• Mentorship is expected

Requirements

• The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
• U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications

• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
• Experience with CAD solid modeling tools and analysis tools
• Experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance (GD&T)
• The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance prior to the start date.
• U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Skills

• Leadership experience with small teams (4-6 people)
• Supplier interaction and supplier management experience
• Ability to collaborate in teams or independently
• Knowledge of mechanical sub-systems packaging, materials, thermal, structural analysis, energetics principals, control systems, interconnect, airframe, or large assembly development

Pay

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD.
