About the role

A growing custom machinery manufacturer is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design and development of automation equipment and specialized metalworking machinery. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on designing complete machine systems, improving existing equipment, and supporting projects from concept through build and testing. This opportunity offers a highly collaborative environment where engineering, manufacturing, assembly, programming, and testing are all completed in-house. Engineers have the ability to see their designs come to life on the production floor while working on a wide variety of custom automation and CNC-related projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design custom automation systems and specialized metalworking machinery
  • Develop machine layouts, assemblies, and detailed mechanical designs
  • Modify and improve existing equipment designs
  • Perform engineering calculations including loads, torque analysis, and design validation
  • Support quoting, project management, and customer communication efforts
  • Collaborate closely with manufacturing and assembly teams throughout machine builds
  • Provide technical sales and application support when needed

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of SolidWorks design experience
  • Strong background in mechanical machine design
  • Experience designing equipment within a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of CNC lathes, mills, machining centers, or metalworking equipment is highly preferred
  • Ability to develop creative engineering solutions and troubleshoot complex mechanical systems
  • Strong understanding of mechanical calculations and design integrity principles
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook
