Our client is a leading manufacturer of high-performance permanent magnet materials serving aerospace, defense, medical, energy, and industrial markets.

About the role

This position is responsible for developing new magnetic material grades, improving manufacturing processes, and supporting production through advanced materials engineering expertise. The successful candidate will lead technical projects focused on process optimization, material characterization, equipment implementation, and continuous improvement while collaborating closely with Operations, Quality, R&D, and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize manufacturing processes for permanent magnet production.
  • Lead efforts to develop new magnetic material grades and improve material performance.
  • Collaborate with Quality and Operations to maintain work instructions, pFMEAs, BOMs, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Research, evaluate, and implement new manufacturing technologies and equipment.
  • Support equipment qualification, installation, validation, and process startup activities.
  • Drive Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives to improve quality, throughput, and cost performance.
  • Conduct root cause investigations and implement corrective actions for process and production issues.
  • Perform material characterization, testing, and failure analysis activities.
  • Lead pilot projects related to new materials, processes, and technologies.
  • Provide technical support for production operations including melt, milling, powder processing, pressing, and sintering.
  • Analyze manufacturing and testing data to improve process performance and product quality.
  • Interface directly with customers to provide technical recommendations and manufacturing guidance.
  • Support business development and research initiatives through technical expertise and project leadership.
  • Contribute to technical publications, presentations, and knowledge-sharing efforts across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in materials engineering, manufacturing engineering, or process engineering.
  • Strong expertise in materials science, material testing, and failure analysis.
  • Experience with process development, manufacturing optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Experience analyzing materials and process data using statistical and engineering methods.
  • Strong project management, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, quality, operations, and manufacturing teams.
  • Experience in powder metallurgy, advanced materials processing, or highly engineered manufacturing environments preferred.
