Senior Material Handler

VPI Quality Windows, a commercial division of JELD-WEN, Inc., manufactures high-quality windows and patio doors for multi-family construction, including apartments, dormitories, senior living, and hotels.

About the role

The Senior Material Handler supports daily warehouse operations across Receiving, Inventory Control, Shipping, and general Warehouse activities. This role serves as a key operational contributor and floor-level leader, ensuring materials flow efficiently, accurately, and safely throughout the facility. The Senior Material Handler assists with executing daily priorities and contributes to operational excellence by maintaining organization, supporting performance boards, participating in shift pass-downs, and adhering to established schedules and procedures.

Compensation starts at $22.59 per hour with benefits.

Responsibilities

• Operate propane and/or electric forklift vehicles.
• Assist in inventory cycle counts as needed.
• Prepare and handle materials.
• Label finished products to match appropriate paperwork.
• Actively support and participate in the company’s safety and health program.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and OSHA guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
• Arrive prior to shift start to gather information for daily planning.
• Complete shift-to-shift pass downs to ensure operational continuity.
• Track and sustain 5S activities and warehouse improvement initiatives.
• Ensure inbound shipments are processed within established timeframes.
• Follow escalation protocols for delayed shipments or operational disruptions and stock outs.
• Communicate professionally and respectfully with all personnel.
• Perform other duties assigned by management.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Valid Driver’s License required.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in production, manufacturing, warehouse, or shipping, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
• Consistent physical activity throughout the shift, including lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying materials weighing up to 50 lbs independently and up to 100 lbs with team assistance.
• Ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours per day on hard surfaces.
• Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, and climbing may be required to access materials and operate equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret shipping/receiving paperwork, labels, and inventory documentation.
• Ability to work in hot, humid, or cold environments depending on warehouse conditions.
• Proficiency in using warehouse tools and equipment, including pallet jacks, forklifts, scanners, and measuring devices.
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times, and employees are expected to maintain a safe and clean work area.
• Overtime may be required, sometimes on short notice, to meet operational goals.
• Must meet daily receiving and shipping targets while maintaining quality standards for raw materials, inventory, and finished goods.

Pay

Expected pay for this role is between $24.04 to $36.06 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
