About the role
Responsible for collaborating with Consultants, Account Directors, Account Associates and Underwriting to research, analyze and develop appropriate recommendations for Alliant's clients' group benefit programs. As part of the team, advises clients on group benefit plan strategy and competitive bidding process. Manages the competitive bidding process for client RFPs. Negotiates plan design features and prices with carriers and vendors on behalf of Alliant's clients.
Responsibilities
- Researches the health and welfare carrier/vendor insurance marketplace to identify competitive plan options and service providers for clients and prospective clients;
- Develops group benefit program marketing strategies in collaboration with Consultants and Account Director for clients;
- Develops group benefit program RFPs for clients that are consistent with client’s employee benefits objectives and strategy;
- Creates group benefit program proposals; reviews with vendors (for accuracy) on behalf of clients;
- Solicits bids (market research) for clients from carriers and vendors;
- Maintains quotes and identifies competitive alternatives;
- Selects quotes to recommend to clients;
- Advises clients (directly or through the Account Director and/or Consultant) as to modifications of RFPs and other strategic alternatives in response to cost or plan design concerns raised by bid responses;
- Negotiates competitive rates and plan design alternatives to the respective Account Director and Consultant;
- Participates in client presentations and meetings; counsels and advises clients on strategic alternatives;
- Reviews peers’ proposals for accuracy, completeness and creative problem solving;
- Collaborates with appropriate personnel to design tools and processes to promote timely and effective communication of benefits information to Alliant’s clients and prospective clients;
- Develops and maintains carrier/vendor relationships and product/service knowledge;
- Keeps abreast of legislative, regulatory, market and product changes;
- Provides training to other members of the staff, on an as needed basis;
- Mentors other members of Account Management through on the job training in order to prepare them for future growth opportunities within the company;
- Complies with agency management system data standards and data integrity (enters and maintains complete and accurate information).
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Three (3) or more years of marketing experience working for a Group Insurance Carrier or Benefits Brokerage Firm
- Underwriting experience
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Organized planner with time management/prioritization and multi-tasking skills
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills
- Ability to work within a team and to foster teamwork
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products
