Senior Marine Claims Specialist
At Zurich North America Claims, work-life balance and flexibility are priorities. About the role
This position involves handling dedicated accounts with frequent interaction with insureds, brokers, and underwriters. Some travel may be required, but it is not frequent.
Responsibilities
- Handle dedicated accounts
- Frequent interaction with insureds, brokers, and underwriters
- Occasional travel
- Obtain and maintain required adjuster license(s)
- Analyze and apply insurance policy components for complex claims
- Follow reserving process for indemnity and expense to analyze potential exposure of complex claims
- Determine scope and exposure for complex claims
- Leverage trends and relationships to provide high-quality customer service
- Identify, understand, and explain complex financial and/or actuarial trends/concepts
- Communicate coverage determinations to customers, clients, and brokers for complex claims
- Direct counsel on an ongoing basis to guide complex litigation and settlement strategies
Requirements
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree and 6 or more years of experience in Claims and/or Litigation Management
- OR Juris Doctor and 2 or more years of experience in Claims and/or Litigation Management
- OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice, including an associate degree with 6 or more years of experience in Claims and/or Litigation Management
- OR Completion of Zurich Claims Training Program and 6 or more years of experience in Claims and/or Litigation Management
- OR High School Diploma or equivalent and 8 or more years of experience in Claims and/or Litigation Management
- Microsoft Office experience
- Knowledge of insurance regulations, markets, and products
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Marine claims, with emphasis on Marine Liability, Hull, Blue water and Brown water claims, Jones Act, General Average, and Ocean Cargo Claims
- Licensed in all states as needed
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Strong multi-tasking and prioritization skills
- Experience collaborating in a team environment and building cross-functional working relationships
- Proactively shares and promotes insights
- Ability to gather unique perspectives from other teams/functions to optimize outcomes
Pay
The proposed salary range for this position is $75,800 - $124,100, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 15%. Pay is based on role, location, skills, and experience, and follows local laws to ensure fair compensation. You may also be eligible for bonuses and merit increases.
