About the role
Celanese is seeking a Senior Manager to join its global Tax team of approximately 80 professionals. The position reports to the Senior Director, International Tax and Planning and supports the Celanese Finance and Business teams. The Tax Planning function is active, offering a dynamic environment to develop and implement tax strategies that optimize the organization’s overall tax position.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Senior Tax Director to plan and implement projects that drive the company’s global effective tax rate initiatives, including US and international tax planning (reorganizations, NCTI, Subpart F, FTC, transfer pricing, etc.) and local country planning.
- Assist outside advisors by providing information to evaluate and model planning initiatives; review deliverables to ensure alignment with company objectives.
- Evaluate alternative strategic planning ideas and make recommendations to the Senior Tax Director and Vice President of Tax.
- Make tactical decisions on project execution and manage external tax and legal advisors to ensure successful completion.
- Organize multi-functional finance and legal processes to propose, approve, and execute finance initiatives, including:
- Scheduling feasibility meetings for projects raised in bi-weekly organizational meetings.
- Maintaining and ranking project logs based on meeting input.
- Preparing documentation for SOX control purposes.
- Drive tax technical research and analysis for projects initiated by the tax team and other areas of the company.
- Manage tax aspects of M&A projects and coordinate among Tax, Legal, and Finance organizations for tax-related issues.
- Prepare documentation of tax positions, technical reasoning, and Gain Recognition Agreements related to projects.
- Support the Tax Provision and Tax Compliance teams with matters related to planning initiatives.
- Prepare key SOX documentation and memorandums for quarterly and annual provision calculations.
- Review portions of annual tax compliance, including Forms 5471, 1118, statements, and elections.
- Provide audit support for areas of responsibility.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and/or J.D.; advanced degree (e.g., Master’s in Taxation or LLM in Taxation) and licensure preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive international tax planning, compliance, and provision experience in a multinational environment; Big 4 and/or law firm experience is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and project management skills.
- “Hands-on” personality with a willingness to work both strategically and in the details.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with the entire tax team, finance, and legal teams on company initiatives.
- Ability to work autonomously or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills to convey tax concepts clearly and concisely to non-tax personnel in finance, legal, and other parts of the organization.
- Knowledge of ERP systems is a plus.
