Senior Manager - Tax
About the Role
The Tax Senior Manager is responsible for leading complex tax engagements, developing team members, and supporting business development initiatives across the Firm. The role involves preparing tax filings and related matters, ensuring adherence to state regulations and local procedures. The ideal candidate should bring strong technical expertise, leadership experience, and the ability to build and maintain client relationships.
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee day-to-day operations of the Tax department, ensuring efficient workflows and high-quality deliverables
- Mentor and develop team members, including hiring, onboarding, training, performance reviews, and career progression
- Review complex federal, state, and multi-state tax returns (individuals, partnerships, corporations, fiduciary, nonprofit, estate/gift)
- Conduct and supervise advanced tax research; interpret and apply current tax laws and regulations
- Advise clients on tax planning strategies, risk mitigation, and compliance matters
- Serve as primary point of contact for key clients; build and maintain strong client relationships
- Manage and resolve IRS and state tax audits, notices, and inquiries
- Identify tax issues and opportunities; provide strategic recommendations to Partners and clients
- Delegate and review work of Associates and Managers, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Collaborate with leadership on business development, including proposals, pricing, and client acquisition
- Monitor project budgets, timelines, and realizations to ensure profitability
- Stay current on industry trends and regulatory changes impacting clients and the firm
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, taxation, or related field
- CPA or Bar certification
- Eight+ years Public Accounting experience with a tax focus
Required Skills
- Competence with tax compliance and research software, including GoSystems, or other software
- Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing throughout all levels of the organization, both internally and externally
- Detail oriented and ability to multitask, possesses excellent time management and prioritization skills
- High degree of self-motivation and self-investment
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
- Works well under pressure and client deadlines
Preferred Skills
- Master’s degree in accounting, taxation, or related field
- Significant supervisory experience
Pay and Benefits
Pay range and compensation package: Competitive Salary: $145,000 - $180,000 per year.
