About the role

The Senior Manager, Software Engineering reports directly to the Senior Director, Digital Engineering and is responsible for the ongoing creation, modification, and implementation of a modern, robust internet interface for the retail bank. This role leads a software engineering team to build and deliver a new strategic interface that supports the company’s business strategy and replaces the current legacy retail interface.

The Senior Manager will work closely with other Digital Engineering leads, middleware, security, and core systems teams to build and maintain a comprehensive set of internet interface capabilities. They will advance development toolsets, system utilities, and libraries, and optimize the software delivery process using Agile methodology and a containerized approach. The role also oversees all associated toolsets for designing, building, managing, administering, or operating the internet interface software.

The Senior Manager collaborates with architects, cloud services engineers, and the middleware team to engineer integrated platforms that are secure, robust, and perform well under load. They also work with the technology operations team to implement effective monitoring, logging, alerting, and ensure high availability. Accountable for all internet interface system design, maintenance, and performance, the Senior Manager ensures systems are well-architected for robust performance, future productivity, and reuse.

The Senior Manager develops and enforces modern software engineering standards to enable exceptional functionality and performance/portability in a multi-cloud environment. They must fully understand business needs, provide transparency to senior leadership during software development, and ensure high-quality implementations that meet First Horizon’s security, resiliency, recovery, and availability requirements.

The role requires managing a broad and diverse team, establishing clear vision and goals to achieve top-quartile engineering quality and results. The Senior Manager must also skillfully manage multiple suppliers to ensure proper value delivery while maintaining long-term control and efficiency. Occasional travel is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a software engineering team to build and deliver a new strategic internet interface for the retail bank.
  • Collaborate with Digital Engineering leads, middleware, security, and core systems teams to build and maintain internet interface capabilities.
  • Advance development toolsets, system utilities, and libraries.
  • Optimize the software delivery process using Agile methodology and a containerized approach.
  • Work with architects, cloud services engineers, and the middleware team to engineer secure, robust, and high-performing integrated platforms.
  • Implement effective monitoring, logging, alerting, and ensure high availability in collaboration with the technology operations team.
  • Oversee all internet interface system design, maintenance, and performance to ensure robust performance, future productivity, and reuse.
  • Develop and enforce modern software engineering standards for functionality and performance/portability in a multi-cloud environment.
  • Understand business needs and provide transparency to senior leadership during software development.
  • Ensure high-quality implementations that meet First Horizon’s security, resiliency, recovery, and availability requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, or a scientific field (preferred). Strong experience and other relevant degree study areas (e.g., business or economics) will be considered. Advanced degree beneficial.
  • Technical software engineering certifications viewed favorably.
  • ITIL and/or Agile certifications beneficial.
  • 3+ years of experience as a senior leader of complex, large infrastructure teams.
  • 7 years of engineering experience, preferably with at least five (5) years in a complex, financial services corporate setting.
  • Experience leading new build, cloud-native software projects.
  • Experience working with diverse teams.
